Mary is an honorary research fellow in Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University, Bendigo, Australia. Mary completed a creative PhD in 2016, the subject of which is intergenerational trauma. Her short stories, features, reviews and poems have been published widely in a variety of Australian and international literary magazines, newspapers, magazines and anthologies including Hecate, Overland, The Melbourne Age, Meniscus, Growing up Asian in Australia, Stereo Stories and others. She published her first novel in 2018, ‘The Hard Seed’. Mary is inspired by the legacies of generations of women writers such as Charlotte Bronte, Virginia Woolf, Alice Munro and Elizabeth Jolley. The short story form is a passion for Mary, in particular short story cycles in which stories blend, fold back and intersect with each other.
