Indrani Ganguly was born of Bengali-speaking parents in Lucknow, India. Her parents imbued her with a strong sense of Indian and world history and culture and a great appreciation of diversity in all its forms.
Indrani studied English Honours at the University of Delhi and sociology and history at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in India. She did her Ph.D. on the impact of British occupation on revolution and reform in West Bengal from the Australian National University.
In India, Indrani worked in academia, publishing and the non-government sector. After migrating to Australia in 1990, she worked in a non-government feminist organisation and many policy areas in the Queensland State Government’s human services departments.
Indrani has also served as a volunteer Committee Member in many community organisations, including the Domestic Violence Resource Centre, Fellowship of Indian Societies of Queensland, the Society of Women Writers Queensland, the Fellowship of Australian Writers Queensland and the Human Research Ethics Committee, University of Queensland.
In 1990, Indrani married an Australian with whom she now lives in Brisbane. They have a son and daughter and a grandson and two beautiful beagles. Love of the creative arts, reading and writing, travel and cooking remain her abiding passions.
All of these experiences have influenced Indrani’s publications, comprising a mix of academic, fiction and non-fiction works.
