Join us to meet our Virtual Writer in Residence courtesy of City of Literature Melbourne.
Zoriana Voitiv from Lviv, Ukraine, will lead two evening poetry workshops. Workshop 1 was held Tuesday 11th November “The Voice Within: Writing from the Heart”
Workshop 2: Thursday 20th November at 7.00pm AEDT
“Home, Memory, and Belonging”
Participants will write poems inspired by memory, place, and identity. Through guided prompts and reflection, we’ll explore what “home” means to each of us — as both a physical and emotional space.
During each workshop, every participant will create her own poem — perhaps for the first time, or as a new discovery of her poetic voice. Above all, it will be an opportunity to feel what poetry truly is.
Members free.
Non-members $15.00 for one or both workshops.
Speaker: Zoriana is a writer, poet, mother of three, and editor-in-chief of a business magazine. She says “I live and create in a time of deep uncertainty — during a full-scale war in Ukraine. Writing for me is not only a form of self-expression, but a tool of survival, reflection, and connection. It helps me process the world around me, and at the same time, reach out to others across borders, cultures, and experiences. I believe in the power of words to build bridges, especially between those who may seem distant — geographically or culturally — but who share the same hopes, fears, and desire to be heard. As a mother and writer, I know how important it is to have a community that values both creativity and care. I see SWWV as exactly that kind of community: one that nurtures stories, offers space for honest dialogue, and encourages collaboration between women from all walks of life. I hope to contribute my voice as a Ukrainian, as a woman, and as someone who believes in writing as both art and resistance. I want to listen as much as I speak — to learn from the Australian context, share from mine, and together create something meaningful. This residency is a chance to connect with a community that understands the value of story, especially in times when words are needed most.”
