What's Going On?

From Book Chats to Workshops, Festivals to Writers' Groups , our events offerings keep the Society relevant for women writers.

When the pandemic prohibited our ability to gather, we pivoted (yes, that proverbial word) and took our events online. Our virtual events have become a welcome addition to our program that resulted in a boost in our membership.

Whether you’re a Zoom native or not, keep an eye out for the next writing update on this page. We’d love to see you at our next event – virtually or until the time we can meet again in person.

Special Zoom Event with Leigh Hay

Date: Wednesday 5 June 2024
Time: 7:30 pm
Price: $20.00

In July 2023, the Heidelberg Choral Society premiered a new work titled Origins: Of the Universe, of life, of species, of humanity, co written by poet Leigh Hay and Professor Jenny Graves.

Jenny’s dream had always been to write a secular choral work about the origins of the universe, and as Leigh had previously written a choral libretto, Jenny invited her to co-write Origins. The subsequent libretto was the coming together of science and poetry, and with music composed and orchestrated by Nicholas Buc, Origins premiered to a sell-out audience at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

In this Zoom presentation, Leigh talks about keys to and the process of libretto writing and co-working in partnership with a scientist, composer and conductor.

Leigh is a SWWV member, free-lance writer and editor. She is also a published author and poet and has sung with choirs for most of her life.
