Written by SWWV member Margaret White, a published author, and with original watercolour illustrations by Ray McInnes Under the River Red is a delightful children’s story.

At the September 30th meeting Margaret tells how the story evolved:

‘One summer evening when my grandchildren and I were quietly sitting under a big River Red Gum tree on the banks of the Broken River (Victoria), we were excited to be rewarded with the sight of a platypus searching for his evening meal.

The children were curious at the sight of this strange animal, that swam like a duck and had fur like a bandicoot. When the platypus finally disappeared into a burrow in the side of the bank the children were sad and bombarded me with questions. Under the River Red is the result.’

Both the book and packs of ten postcards showing the watercolour illustrations from the book are available.   Profits from both will be donated to Anglicare Victoria for the care of children in need.
