Dynamic poet and editor, Krystle Herdy presented a Performance Poetry workshop at the July meeting,
She told members, ‘Throw out your preconceived ideas about poetry. Performance Poetry is about communication. You have to reach out and touch your audience. You are taking your audience on a journey.’
Those present sharing the journey with Krystle were very impressed with her power and passion as she ‘performed’ two of her original pieces. A sign of the presenter’s ability to communicate came through her workshop when she helped turn our flash writing efforts into Performance Poetry.
Krystle’s tips were to use alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, repetition as a refrain and rhyme. ‘You also need to build a relationship with your audience,’ she said. ‘Touch all senses if you can.’
